City of Karratha Airport has taken out the Water Corporation’s top gong as part of the Waterwise Business Program.
The City was announced as the recipient of the Platinum Waterwise Business of the Year on 7 May on the back of a series of initiatives that halved water use at the Karratha Airport.
These included ongoing major upgrade to water distribution networks, as well as increased use of recycled water for irrigation, flushing toilets and wash-down bays.
The City also piloted a project delivering real-time usage data and help easily identify leaks at seven Airport tenancies.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said this was an incredible achievement for the City.
“To be recognised with this award shows how we are leading the way as a water-sensitive city,” Cr Scott said.
“Last financial year alone, we halved the potable water use at the Karratha Airport and this year will be upgrading our Water Resource Recovery Plant to further boost our water efficiency.
“I’d like to thank and recognise our staff for their hard work in undertaking this project and this achievement.”
