Community groups receive more than $300,000 boost

More than $300,000 has been awarded to local community and sporting organisations across the City of Karratha through Council’s Biannual Community Grants Scheme.

Council approved 10 applications for financial assistance at the April Council meeting, including $50,000 to the Karlayura Rodeo for the Karlayura Roebourne Rodeo, $50,000 to the Nor West Jockey Club for the Roebourne Races and $32,370 to Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation for their Women’s Cultural Learning Program.

Also among the groups to receive funding were the Karratha Kats Football and Sporting Club, Karratha Arts and Learning Centre and St John Ambulance.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the grants scheme helped local groups, associations and individuals’ deliver programs, events, and services to benefit the community.

“A thriving and vibrant community is key to achieving Council’s vision of being Australia’s most liveable regional city,” Cr Scott said.

“These groups form the heart and soul of Karratha and every year the City allocates $500,000 in funding through our Large Community Grants program.

“These grants demonstrate the Council’s ongoing dedication to supporting local organisations that help make our City such a wonderful place to live.”
