Dreams of a Lonely Planet lands in Karratha for one magical night

An award-winning production is set to touch down at the Red Earth Arts Precinct this September, offering families an unforgettable evening of imagination and storytelling.

From the 2025 winners of the WA Fringe World Children’s Events Award is Dreams of a Lonely Planet, a tender and curious exploration of identity and belonging through an inventive mix of dance and shadow puppetry.

The performance will take to the stage on 9 September with the company also visiting Karratha and Wickham libraries for story and dance workshops.

Audiences will follow the tale of Boy, who feels nervous and out of place down here on Earth, as he escapes through his blanket fort into surreal worlds where bicycles can fly and big feelings can be boundless. On this journey in the stars, he discovers a missing piece of himself he is yet to embrace.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said Dreams of a Lonely Planet will capture the hearts of all ages.

“This production uses visual storytelling and original movement, inviting our community to step into another world and see the beauty in difference and belonging,” Cr Scott said.

Cr Scott said hosting shows like this is part of the City’s commitment to delivering diverse and engaging cultural opportunities for residents.

“The Red Earth Arts Precinct allows us to bring nationally recognised performances to local audiences, so families can experience world-class arts right here in the Pilbara.

“I encourage everyone to book early for this one – it’s going to be a truly magical night.”
