Local Government Election to be held via postal election

The 2025 Local Government Election will be held via postal vote, following a decision by Council at the April Council Meeting to endorse the WA Electoral Commission to conduct the election.

Local Government Elections are held on the third Saturday in October every two years with the next election to be held on Saturday, 18 October.

Since 2007 the City has used the WA Electoral Commission as the returning officer for local government elections.

This year’s election will see representation reduce from 10 to nine Elected Members as part of the State Governments Local Government Reforms.

As a result of the reforms, this election will see five seats contested in October and expiring in 2029.

Further information will be published on the City’s website in the lead up to the election, including information on how to nominate to be a Councillor and poll opening dates.
